Since opening its doors in 1994, the Bird’s Eye Jazz Club has earned an excellent reputation among jazz aficionados around the world. Dubbed as one of Europe’s top jazz clubs and mentioned in popular publications such as JazzTimes, it presents a programme filled with jazz traditions, from classical post-bop and African rhythms to Latin-American oriented sounds.

When bassist, manager and artistic director Stephan Kurmann founded the Bird’s Eye Jazz Club, little did he know that the club located in Basel, in the North-Western part of Switzerland, would go on to become one of Europe’s coziest live jazz venues.

Bird’s Eye Jazz Club: Top-Class Jazz

Today, 20 years later, Bird’s Eye is still going strong. Considered one of the country’s most prestigious jazz clubs, it offers high-quality live music at a wallet-friendly admission fee.

With live music five nights a week (four during the summer season), it is among Switzerland’s busiest and well-known jazz spots. And positive reviews haven’t been pouring only from the local press.

In 2007, for instance, Easy Jet’s Magazine voted the Bird’s Eye Jazz Club as “One of the top 3 sexiest, saxiest and swingest jazz clubs in Europe”.

From internationally-acclaimed acts to prominent members of the Swiss jazz scene, and young artists with a bright future ahead, Bird’s Eye presents a rich, diversified, and sophisticated live music programme.

In addition to hosting live performances, Bird’s Eye also organizes workshops that aim at giving the audience a deeper understanding of jazz music. And throughout the year, the venue provides workshops programmes for schools too.
