Jamaica might not be the first country that comes to mind when talking about jazz, but it is home to one of the Caribbean’s most appealing jazz events.
The annual Jamaica Ocho Rios International Jazz Festival, which this year takes place from 8 to 15 June, has established itself as a recognized authority that promotes and showcases distinguished international, Jamaican and Caribbean jazz artists.
Trumpeter Joe Sizemore, Mexican band Pie Grande, pianist Niki Walters and New Jersey-born vocalist Pat Braxton are some of the confirmed performers for this year’s edition.

Organized in Ocho Rios, in the Northern part of the island, the Jamaica Ocho Rios International Jazz Festival is an annual jazz happening that promotes Jamaican and Caribbean jazz musicians and presents international guests. According to its website the event, which takes place from 8 to 15 June, is dedicated to the preservation of “Classical Black Music and America’s First Art Form”.
